We are broadening our In-Sync to cover CHH artists from around Africa, yes one Friday every month is dedicated to sharing the heart behind the music made by artists based in other African countries. In today’s In Sync Africa, we zone into the life and musical journey of Lilywhite a born again female rapper from Nairobi, Kenya.
Back in 2011, she encountered Christian hip hop for the first time in the 116 world tour. The fact that the music was uncorrupted made it easy for her to get hooked on it. “I memorized some Lecrae songs and that’s when I found out I could rap. Being a born again Christian I chose to stick to holy hip-hop,” shared Lily. Her music is influenced by the 116 clique & NF and she defines her music style as mainly Trap music but “I love to explore other styles such as Afro-pop and EDM,” she added. She recently released an album title In the Long Run which is available on all digital music platforms. The title track’s release was also covered on Rapzilla.
Her favourite female artists are Heesun Lee, Jackie HillPerry, Wande, and Kay Sade. Lately, she has been doing features and writing music for her next EP long with a producer from here in Kenya. “The music industry is a dangerous place for women as there will always be people waiting to take advantage of you, on every move you make you have to be cautious, “Lilly expressed. Amongst her many feature projects, she is also featuring on a documentary that is produced by MelisaGotGrace about sisters in CHH, the documentary will also be featuring Phlo-Girl, look out for more details about it right here on SACHH. Lilywhite also features in a FEMCEE Cypher hosted by God’s Hypman Entertainment in Zambia. Click this link to listen to it now.
“I believe any song could be a hit. It depends on the timing of releasing the content with the right artist and right beat.” Lilywhite’s bars are in Swahili and English giving Glory to Christ and sharing about His goodness, it sets her apart as a Christian artist writing in linguistic versatility, she would love to collaborate with Proud Refuge, Daramola, and Limoblaze one day and also aspires to have an Africa Music tour from South Africa to Uganda, Zambia, Malawi, Ghana, and Nigeria. “I haven’t had that much experience with shows yet but a memorable performance was at the GOAT Concert 2019 here in Nairobi. I witnessed people from different religions enjoy my music. It was amazing,” exclaimed Lily.
Apart from CHH she spends her time learning music production and at school completing her degree. Let us support each other and show the unity we have in Christ is not limited to borderlines. Lily encourages CHH artists to “show brotherly support and come together so that we can build a movement that will be heard everywhere in the world.”Follow her on Facebook and Instagram to keep with her latest moves and support her music ministry.
