Born Lesego Karen Modise, the female artist grew up in a Christian family, but it was at a church kid’s camp that she came to know God personally. She started rapping at the age of 16 years but it was through God’s guidance that she decided to rap the gospel, the artist shared that it is her desire for her music to lead people to God and into a personal relationship with him, “You can just say that you are a worldly artist if people, through your music, cannot connect with God” remarked Lilly Maya.
The young artist who is almost 22 years old released her first single (No Other God ft Ayo Mush) earlier this year followed by a single featuring MelisaGotGrace that she dropped recently titled Fearless. Her musical style is afro trap gospel and her bars keeping getting better, in a recent performance Lilly Maya had people singing along with her first single and the songs that she is will be releasing soon featuring Beam Boy, Be My Best friend. She shared with Mpho (listen to full interview) that she is working on a project titled Love Granted and if her catalogue is anything to go by there will be more collaborations. She will also be collaborating with many different artists names like MelisaGotGrace, Beam Boy and Josh Zambia were let out of the bag, but there are many more said to be featured on what will be Lilly Maya’s debut album.
She suggested we be on the lookout for Jimo World, Keagan Holland, Beam Boy and MelisaGotGrace, “they are led by the Holy Spirit,” she added. Lilly Maya may be on the SA CHH scene for a young minute but she is relentless in her approach to the musical ministry God has called her to.
